Released in 1985 by the USDA breeding program in Washington State, Chinook is an American dual-purpose classic and one of the defining hops of the West Coast style. With alpha acids typically between 11 and 14%, it delivers assertive bitterness alongside a bold, distinctive aroma of pine, resin, grapefruit and a characteristic spicy, herbal edge. Equally at home providing clean bittering or a punchy late-hop and dry-hop character, Chinook lends backbone and unmistakable Pacific Northwest personality to hop-forward beers.
