Meet Luc Delacoste, owner of Good Beer Solutions

My name is Luc Delacoste, aka Cayon, I was a brewer, and now I craft with you.

Luc Delacoste

I started brewing in 2009 after finding an old book about home brewing while sorting books in the charity shop I was working at. The book was called “Home Brewing”, by Mr. Graham Wheeler. So, thank you, Mr. Wheeler, you might be one of the most important people in my professional life, for the best.

From that point, things quickly turned into an obsession. Fellow brewers probably know what I’m talking about. Learning about brewing is a quest that knows no end. And learning is my bread and butter. So, I jumped into the brewing adventure. First as a home brewer, I made mistakes, ruined my kitchen, entered competitions, won some, and thought I might make a living out of it. What a crazy assumption, if you think about it.

About Cayon’s brewery and the swiss craft beer scene

Some years later, life gave me some time to really think about my brewery project, and I jumped on the wagon. I launched what is now known as Cayon Bière aka “Cayon’s Brewery”. The name comes from my surname, Lucaillon (meaning something like “the small Luc”, yes, ridiculous), which I was using to label my homebrews.

I started in the cellar of a local winemaker in Aigle, with a 200-liter gas-powered brewing unit. The Swiss brewery landscape was experiencing a boom, and people were just discovering US-style versions of brews like IPAs, Stouts, and Saisons. I liked those and brewed them. I was lucky enough to get very good reviews and ratings from the start, and my reputation grew rapidly. You can still find my brews on Untappd: https://untappd.com/Cayonbrewery

But what can you do brewing 2 hours per day and fermenting them in plastic tanks? Not much. So, I upgraded to a 5HL system and moved to a proper location.

Cayon

From day one, I have been fascinated by testing recipes and ingredients. Tweaking temperatures, trying new malts, hops, and yeast, experimenting with fermentation… This led me to try to get my hands on different malts, which were not readily available in Switzerland. So, I tried to import them. This led me to create a company aimed at importing brewing ingredients into Switzerland; Brewworks.

From Cayon’s beer to brewery supplier, a passion for brewing

I quit Brewwork in 2023 and launched “Good Beer Solutions” in 2024. I chose Good Beer Solutions because I always believed I should bring more to brewers than just raw materials, but solutions aimed at improving the quality of their brews and helping them reach their goals in the brewery and on the market. This is why Good Beer Solutions’ moto is “I craft with you”.

Thanks to Mr. Wheeler and many other amazing people I had the chance to meet in the unique industry of brewing, I now work where my passion lies in interacting with brewers and continuing to learn about the beer and brewing world.
